Z's Fieldtrip

Z asked me to go with him on his 5th grade field trip to Cincinnati.
He was SO excited!  Leading up to the trip and on the trip!

The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center

Our tour guide pointed out on this piece what the artist put up towards the top of this piece - the difference between 2 bars:   The crisscross ones on the side were where the man had no choice (due to slavery) but the one in the middle had a choice to be behind bars and made a bad one (put in prison).

And we learned about Harry 'Box'  Brown.
He was a slave that shipped himself to freedom.
He was in a box for 27 hours!

Then we went to the Newport Aquarium.

I'm not sure I've seen bigger jelly fish?

They have a rope bridge across the shark tank that we walked across!

I wore my mask on the bus with the recirculating air and all those kids and a WBC of 1.9 but Z said he'd rather I wear my mask than not come with him as a chaperon.

Back on the bus, Z was so happy and he said that this was the best trip!
That it was "so fun and worth the money."   :)

End of Volleyball Season

I wasn't able to go to the season end banquet (I was on a field trip with Z).
The 6th graders all got a medal for winning 2nd place in a tournament and a trophy for being on the team.
The coach choose a couple players for an extra award.   He didn't say their names first.   D heard something like "for this one, this player was encouraging to everyone on the team, she helped the her team mates, she practiced hard, she was honest, if you told her to do something and then walked away, you could trust that she would do it, she took correction, etc."  Then they announced that the "Sportsmanship Award goes to ... "   Our daughter!!!!"   :)  (That's the principal handing out the awards - not the coach.)

Easter

Matt and Holly brought these fun looking cakes!

The girls hid the eggs for the adults this year!   Holly found the special carrot egg! :)

At the end of the day a storm came in . . . very windy.   Knocked our basketball goal over  :(   missed Matt's car by only 6 inches!!!  Just flattened the front of the rim a tiny bit.   Craziness!

March Miscellaneous

Ak got to play a ukulele at school in music class.  She came home and said she wanted to learn how to play it and to buy one!   I told her to ask Gpa for some lessons at home!   I would love to be able to play . . . so maybe she'll make my dreams come true through her!  :)
Got invited out to the Z farm for a bonfire!
The Kellys, Mendez's and Forrest's were there too!

B invited a friend from school to come to the bonfire with us.
Her mom was in the hospital and not doing well.
B got to make some treats one night at YW's!
She was excited to put them at each place setting on Easter.
We forgot to put them out.  :(

Primary Easter Egg Hunt.

Drum Group

The drum group performed at the Diversity Fair at a local high school.

It's been a fun experience - Z's 2nd year and Ak's first year in this group!
They meet once a week after school.
Their director/music teacher is a talented guy!
click here to watch them perform - total time is 5 minutes

Akili and Zuri are in the front row - kind of left middle.  When Ak leans forward - she blocks Zuri a little bit.   Then for the last song - Swahili counting song - Akili is in the back row playing the cowbell and Zuri is blocked by the teacher, front right, 2nd row playing the xylophone - you can see him bow.  :)
